PROFESSOR SIR LEONARD BAIRSTOW, CBE, FRS, FRAeS (1880 – 1963).

Years ago, when I was an engineering student in Ghent, one of my favourite courses was numerical analysis. One of the first calculation and iterative methods the course covered was the Bairstow Method, named after Sir Leonard Bairstow, used to calculate the roots of a polynomial equation. Real genius often manifests itself in simple solutions, and Bairstow demonstrated this by a method which enabled to simply detach a quadratic equation off the polynomial equation! Since the roots of a quadratic equation are very simply determined, one had at the same time two roots of the larger equation, since the polynomial equation could be written as the product of the quadratic one and a polynomial one of two degrees less. So, if you put in a root of the quadratic equation, it yielded zero, but at the same time so did the product of the two equations so the roots of the quadratic one were at the same time the roots of the initial polynomial one!

It is with love that this evening, I pored once again over the notes detailing with Bairstow's Method. It looks so beautiful, I thought I wanted so share 'em, so here they are: math archaeology from the eighties:












Let me clarify; DON'T - RUN - AWAY!!!


First off, wanna see a run of the mill polynomial equation? Here it is:





Symbolically, with variables substituting for the distinct numbers above, we could write the above equation as (see the notation Vn(x) = ....):





Now, as I wrote earlier, Bairstow figured that if he could just split off a quadratic equation off the bigger polynomial, and write both as a product, it would merely suffice to find the roots for the quadratic. And THAT is easy of course, in all likelihood most of you must have come across that stuff already in your third year High School:





FYI, this knowledge goes back as far as 628AD, when the Indian mathematician Brahmagupta literally described the above formula.


I consider myself lucky to have had to study numerical analysis - amongst others. If your kid has a knack for math, you might want to steer him/her into a direction in which he/she will at some point come across Bairstow and Co. Mathematics is sheer beauty. Oh, you might even give them a nod if they DON'T have that knack - I certainly didn't, but I chewed myself a way thru it and feel a better and richer person because of it.


Sir Leonard Bairstow, CBE, FRS, FRAeS (1880 – 1963), a Halifax, UK native, not only distinguished himself as a keen mathematician. Post secondary school, a scholarship secured him a place at the Royal College of Science, and once there, a Whitworth Scholarship helped him to do research into the explosion of gases. From there, he went to the National Physical Laboratory at Bushy Park where in time he became Head of aeroplane research work, holding the Zaharoff Chair of Aviation at Imperial College from 1920-1949 and becoming Professor Sir Leonard Bairstow. At some point, he also became a member of the Royal Society of London and the Royal Aeronautical Society. While Bairstow the Mathematician established his fame with the method named after him, see above, Bairstow the Aeronatical Engineer became incontournable with his groundbreaking work Applied Aerodynamics (1920). You can download it for free, as I did (it is now a prized possession in my library), and it makes for good, if a trifle difficult reading. Good, that is, if you are an aviation enthusiast. Anyway, Applied Aerodynamics's importance at the time was so profound that it was 'field-used' into World War II and its principles hold firmly today. Below you see a pic I took of a page at random. It deals with the longitudinal balance of a plane which is determined by the couples working around its center of gravity. One of those forces is, of course, the lift produced by the speed of the aircraft. The figure shows the resultant wing force and its centre of pressure on a wing section at various speeds:





Back in those days, a work like Bairstow's was sorely needed. Without sound theoretical treatises or sufficient empirical knowledge (I'm not sure there were wind tunnels at all in the early twenties) aerodynamics was very much a business of trial and error. Test pilots paid with their lives for this, like e.g. the crew of the ill-fated Tarrant Tabor which crashed just when lifting off for its maiden flight from Farnborough on May 26, 1919:





On that day, pilot and co-pilot Captains F.G. Dunn and P.T. Rawlings, after taxying, launched Tabor F 1765, a design meant to bomb Berlin from the UK, with only the lower four engines (which were in a push pull configuration) at full throttle. At some point they also engaged the two upper engines - also at full power. You do not have to be Bairstow - you do not even have to be an aeronautical engineer - to understand what happened next. The sudden extra power of two engines placed that high above the fuselage lifted by their sheer torque the tail section up... and the nose section down. The Tabor, having just lifted off, crashed with its nose into the ground instantly killing Dunn and Rawlings.

I'm pretty sure Prof Bairstow must have been well informed about the disaster. And I'm also pretty sure that if HE had been involved in the design of the plane, he would have foreseen what happened. But it was not to be like that, and again a blood price was paid.

Bairstow himself passed away in 1963.

His research did not.

ONE YEAR ON...

On March 31, 2011, at about 9.30 pm, I entered my parents' home. All lights were on, but nobody answered my calls. I looked in the garage - my parents' Mercedes was gone.

Somehow, even though I never suspected in the preceding weeks that something was wrong with my father's health, I just knew I had to rush to the hospital in our town. And indeed, there they were, in the last Emergency cell, my father sitting upright in a mobile bed, my mother at his side, both apprehensively, although they tried very hard not to look worried. They explained that father had felt so miserable that mother had felt compelled to call the MUG (Medisch Urgentieteam, Medical Urgency Ambulance).

Actually, at that precise moment, dad didn't look too bad. With his typical dry humor, he asked one nurse what his chances of survival were. That nurse stood with arms crossed, calmly pondering the situation as it were, and with a humorous wink shrugged his concerns off, saying that it couldn't be that bad, could it, and besides, he was going to be carried away by a beautiful nurse. Which was true, the one preparing dad to be carted to his room was a beautiful young lady.

However - it turned out that alas, it WAS bad.

It turned out that it was VERY bad.

A couple of minutes later, we left father alone in his room and went home. The last thing I remember about that scene was how father assumed a fetal position on his right side with a grimace of pain on his visage. And still I somehow expected that after a short stay in hospital all would be well again. Hadn't dad participated, just the sunday before, in the yearly reunion of his old class of the Institut Technique in A., and hadn't he been clearly the strongest character, walking proud and upright among all the cane-toting seventy-plussers with a plethora of deficiencies and handicaps?

In the morning, at about 7 am, mom called in a panic urging me to come immediately to pick her up and rush to the hospital because during the early hours father had suffered a cardiac arrest.

That was the beginning of a month long struggle which ended with... father's passing.

HUMAN ACHIEVEMENT HOUR: PUT THE LIGHTS ON (AS MANY AS YOU CAN).

First a compelling article (although not for me anymore - been debunking the green crazyness here since 2004 or so) in the Wall Street Journal by William Happer:

"GLOBAL WARMING MODELS ARE WRONG AGAIN.

What is happening to global temperatures in reality? The answer is: almost nothing for more than 10 years. Monthly values of the global temperature anomaly of the lower atmosphere, compiled at the University of Alabama from NASA satellite data, can be found at the website http://www.drroyspencer.com/latest-global-temperatures/. The latest (February 2012) monthly global temperature anomaly for the lower atmosphere was minus 0.12 degrees Celsius, slightly less than the average since the satellite record of temperatures began in 1979.

The lack of any statistically significant warming for over a decade has made it more difficult for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and its supporters to demonize the atmospheric gas CO2 which is released when fossil fuels are burned. The burning of fossil fuels has been one reason for an increase of CO2 levels in the atmosphere to around 395 ppm (or parts per million), up from preindustrial levels of about 280 ppm.

CO2 is not a pollutant. Life on earth flourished for hundreds of millions of years at much higher CO2 levels than we see today. Increasing CO2 levels will be a net benefit because cultivated plants grow better and are more resistant to drought at higher CO2 levels, and because warming and other supposedly harmful effects of CO2 have been greatly exaggerated. Nations with affordable energy from fossil fuels are more prosperous and healthy than those without.

The direct warming due to doubling CO2 levels in the atmosphere can be calculated to cause a warming of about one degree Celsius. The IPCC computer models predict a much larger warming, three degrees Celsius or even more, because they assume changes in water vapor or clouds that supposedly amplify the direct warming from CO2. Many lines of observational evidence suggest that this "positive feedback" also has been greatly exaggerated.

There has indeed been some warming, perhaps about 0.8 degrees Celsius, since the end of the so-called Little Ice Age in the early 1800s. Some of that warming has probably come from increased amounts of CO2, but the timing of the warming—much of it before CO2 levels had increased appreciably—suggests that a substantial fraction of the warming is from natural causes that have nothing to do with mankind...."

Tomorrow it's Earth Hour again, the yearly Econazi Nutterfest, and the lunatics that think the planet is going bust because we've raised the CO2 level from, ah, something like 0.0365 to 0.038 per cent, expect us to sit cold in the dark and cry rivers over our mistreatment of our puh-puh-puh-puh-pooooooooor planet!!!

Many visitors left comments that were hostile to the police or favorable to Islamic extremism.”

More proof that Merah was no “lone gunman,” but a representative of the hopes and desires of far more Muslims than the mainstream media are willing to admit, came when scores of young Muslims gathered in Toulouse to honor Merah’s memory. (If that doesn’t sound like much, remember that a recent demonstration of “moderate Muslims” drew only 36, despite receiving enthusiastic international publicity.)

At the pro-Merah demonstration, a woman wearing a burqa said: “What we ask today is that we stop demonizing Mohamed, that’s it, he died.” She paid lip service to Merah’s victims: “We share the pain and suffering of the families because it is the same pain for us here.” But then she excused his murders: “I think what influenced him is what he had seen in his many travels. He could not manage all that. He was still a teenager in his head, despite his 23 years.”

Most teenagers, even those who are just teenagers in their heads, don’t massacre Jews while screaming “Allahu akbar.” This is jihad. This is Islamic Jew-hatred, prescribed and commanded by the Quran. This demonstration reveals the enemy within our own borders and shores. Imagine marching for this cold-blooded killer (in a cloth coffin, aka a burqa, no less). This is the most anti-human ideology on the face of the earth, and it is winning over entire nations and regions across the world."

Ask yourself THIS: if you were a father of a misfit son who committed sevenfold murder in cold blood INCLUDING three year old toddlers, and you learned that that son was killed by the police in a gunfight, would YOU sue the police for murder????

MULTICULTURAL ENRICHMENT: SIX OUT OF TEN NON-EUROPEAN IMMIGRANTS IN BELGIUM DON'T WORK.

Evidence of the catastrophic job situation within the community of Belgian Cultural Enrichers was provided by the Loonkloofrapport 2012 (Wages Discrepancy Report 2012), which in turn is based on statistical data obtained from Belgium's National Bank (NBB, Nationale Bank van Belgie).

'Of the non-European immigrants in Belgium less than half is working. Of the women three quarters don't have a job, writes De Standaard following the release of the Wages Discrepancy Report 2012 which itself is based on NBB data. The numbers have steadily gotten worse over the past few years, because in 2008 42,1% was working while this number levelled off to 39,9% in 2011. When taking gender into account 51 per cent of the male non-European immigrants are working; with women that number decreases to 26%.'

Outlaw Mike thinks that if there's a curious gap between males and females with regards to unemployment it might be wise to include a factor like religious persuasion in the equation. I do not think that the ladies in the photo above, lining up to receive their welfare check happily provided by the Belgian State (though probably less happily by the Belgian taxpayer) are actually ALLOWED to work outside the house by their husbands.

Luckily our friends the socialists have P-L-A-N-S to remedy the situation!

A DAY OUT IN THE ARDENNES.

Although I would lie. The area I visited was not yet the Ardennes proper, but the Fagne.

My first stop was in Yvoir, where I hoped to lay my hands on a couple of decent walking maps of the larger area. More precisely I wanted to do a trek from the centre of Yvoir to the ruins of the medieval castle of Poilvache. Alas, no such luck. There wasn't even a Bureau of Tourism. So me off by car, and 'lo and behold, on my GPS display I noticed that a small road veering to the right, a couple of kloms outside Yvoir, was marked 'Chemin de Poilvache'. And indeed, after following it for about two kloms, I came across the old chateau. What remains of it sits on top of a rocky crag overlooking the Meuse river, "Belgium's Rhine":

This was once a room with a view. To the north, to be precise. Quite a commanding position indeed.


Then it was off to Dinant, 'Daughter of the Meuse', since I assumed that in a town of this (touristic) magnitude the Syndicat du Tourisme would be open so that I could get my walking maps. Btw, the inventor of the saxophone, Adolphe Sax, was born here.





Alas, no such luck. On a glorious Spring day like this one the fonctionnaires of Dinant's Bureau of Tourism were all exhausted from a week's hard work. I did not cross the Meuse for nothing though (I parked my car on the east bank while the Bureau of Tourism is on the west). There's a plaque ther commemmorating a particular fella.





Indeed, Charles de Gaulle, in the opening days of the Great War, fought and was wounded here on this very spot. Alas, the ghost of the good (cough) General was no more able to get me a map than Dinant's city personnel.


Back on the East Bank it was time for a prayer in the Church of Our Lady:





A couple of streets further I came across three Willy's jeeps, no doubt piloted by WWII buffs:





If memory serves it was the designer of a competitor for the contract that missed the order, who was the father of this very versatile vehicle.



Outlaw wouldn't be Outlaw if he didn't have a plan B though. Just in case I had a book with walking itineraries with me, and I noticed there was a decent walk near the village of Falmignoul, barely seven kloms south of Dinant along the Avenue de General Hodges (who commanded the 1st US Army when it liberated this region in autumn 44). A quick snap with the iPhone of the relevant page - it would have to suffice - and off I was. Pic taken looking back to the north, some one and a half klom out of Falmignoul's centre:





Already on the way back, I veered off the path's way and was rewarded for it with this sight:





The Chateau de Waulsort, apparently in a slightly better condition than the Chateau de Poilvache. Notice the pennant with the Belgian flag. On these lonely heights, Belgian nationalism is alive and kicking! Ta-daaaaaaa!!!!!



It was about time to wrap the day up. I figured that if I made a detour going home, I would still be able to see two items that for one reason or another had always eluded me. The first one was the small barrage of Ry de Rome, a couple of kloms south of the town of Couvin.





This is not for hydro-electric purposes however, only for distributing drinking water in the region. What did you say? Boring? Yeah, I guess so.


Time for our story's second Adolph. A while back, there used to be this Famous Socialist in Krautland, which is Belgium's eastern neighbor. In 1940, his troops canned the western allies in six weeks. Belgium's army resisted for eighteen days. When Dunkirk was over - btw, the French and the Brits were only able to evacuate 340,000 troops across the Channel BECAUSE of the Belgian Army's resistance - Adolph turned his attention south to finish France and the remainder of its armed forces. He did perhaps not envisage that from then on, France would collapse like bad soufflé. For right after our capitulation, he had the Organisation Todt (I assume it was that organisation) build him a HQ in Belgium's south near the village of Bruly-de-Pesche, whence he intended to monitor the rest of the Feldzug. The pic show the tiny, tiny (so unlike the Fuhrer's grand palns) bunker that was built there in a matter of days. It stands there to this day and you can visit it:





The interior of the mapping room. If only I had had the Fuhrer's Powers on this day, I certainly would have had my walking maps brought to me in no time on a silver platter, exhausted Tourism Bureau fonctionnaires or not.

On a more serious note, Bruly-de-Pesche not only sports Hitlers first bunker HQ in a foreign country of the war, but also a small chapel commemmorating the Belgian maquisards of the region. On the ceiling, you can read the names of those KIA:





Here are the other ones. I felt that again a little prayer was in order to thank these gentle heroes for their sacrifice.





This thinly populated and rather rough area must have offered the Belgian maquis a liberty of action they did not enjoy in Flanders, Belgium's north. Still, I was surprised by the huge number of fatalities.

DISGUSTING BBC COVERAGE ON TOULOUSE JIHADIST MOHAMMED MERAH: BEEB WHORENALISTS KNOW THEY ARE BEING WATCHED.

In an earlier article, the BBC aka the Baghdad Broadcasting Corporation managed to publish an article without using the M-word when describing islamic extremist Mohamed Merah who gunned down 7 people in Toulouse, including two toddlers.

That page is down now, but LiveLeak in time captured a screenshot. Here it is:





Although the link between between an islamic nutcase who once was spotted wielding swords in his neighborhood and shouting 'Allahu Akbar', and the gruesome murder of jewish infants, is as obvious as the link between eating onion soup and the ensuing fartfest, the BBC couldn't detect that link.

HOWEVER... they count on YOUR sheer stupidity to believe their planted link between these horrifying murders and 'extreme rightwing madwoman' Marine le Pen:

"She is often associated with the more controversial debates on immigration and her presence will be closely observed in light of recent events, reports the BBC's Christian Fraser in Toulouse."

Golly. It really stands there.

It SHOULD NOT be necessary that their schools need police protection, and yet this just happens to be the case. Because of the politicians and the media's callous choice NOT to mention the CAUSE of this ungodly phenomenon, namely Europes relentless islamization, people like Christian Fraser, institutions like the BBC, or newspapers like Le Monde or De Standaard...

... are guilty too.

My frustration comes from the knowledge that those claiming to have black America's empowerment and best interest at heart are the "elephant in the room" problem. They lie to black America. Who are "they"? They are Democrats committed to keeping blacks viewing themselves as victims. They are racist, bitter black politicians with huge chips on their shoulders, seeking eternal "payback" for America's original sin of slavery. These black politicians are rewarded by the Democrats for delivering black votes.

So there you have it, black America: these are your so-called advocates. And how do they help you? They lie to you. They tell you that 70% of black youths dropping out of high school is not your fault. They tell you that prisons filled with black males is not their fault. They tell you that 80% of black kids growing up without a father is not your fault. They tell you that black genocide -- half of black pregnancies ending in abortion -- is not your fault.
They tell you that English is too difficult to learn and that standards must be lowered. They tell you that blacks who speak correct English are traitors trying to be white. They tell you that despite the fact that showing proper ID is required to board an airplane and a gazillion other things, requiring ID to vote will disenfranchise blacks. Thus, their message is that blacks are too stupid to acquire ID...


...The community resented Jewish and Asian store owners in black neighborhoods. I always thought, "Why?" These people did not receive a start-up check from the government. They took a risk. They rented in the black ghetto because it was cheaper. They worked long hours. Experience taught them to install a wall of bulletproof glass, separating them from their customers. Fourteen, fifteen family members lived above their businesses. These Jewish and Asian people were pursuing the American Dream the best way they knew how. What was stopping their black customers from doing the same thing? Answer: in many cases, blacks were relying on Democrat welfare programs.

Yes, racism was an issue is those days. But how do you explain the entrepreneurial success of black millionaires in Harlem in the 1920s?

Blacks have been congressmen and business owners in America since the 1800s. And yet, Democrats continue to tell us that we are incapable of finding our way to acquire an ID.

Democrats and bitter, small-minded blacks insist on forcing blacks into their "black box." They say authentic blacks must have had a "ghetto experience."

When the Bill Cosby Show first hit TV, it was highly criticized because the sitcom black father was a doctor and his family lived in a nice home. I heard the same criticism of Diahann Carroll in her TV sitcom, Julia, in which she played a successful black nurse -- not reflective of the black experience. The Cosby Show and Julia were outside the Democrat-promoted "black box."
In my youth, I met a black master swordsman. Excited, I carted him around to black community centers because I wanted black kids to see that blacks could be successful in fields beyond entertainment and sports.

Despite blacks succeeding today in almost every area of American life, Democrats continue to portray black Americans as still getting the short end of the stick. Democrats promote an image of the authentic black experience as a majority in need of government entitlements, as people who can't find their way to acquire ID -- sitting at home watching Maury on TV, anxiously awaiting for the results of the DNA test to discover the name of Keysha's baby's daddy. This is the Democrats' black America.

This is not black advocacy or empowerment. It is demeaning, humiliating, and crippling. Why can't my fellow blacks see this obvious truth?

I am a Republican because the Republican Party respects my intelligence -- no special concessions or lowered standards.

In the 1950s, my dad was one of the first blacks to break the racist color barrier into the Baltimore Fire Department. The white firefighters rejected my dad and made conditions horrific for him. Still, dad won "Firefighter of the Year" two times. That's what I am talking about!
Given the opportunity, in their typical denigrating of black intellect, Democrats would argue that requirements for Firefighter of the Year be lowered to give my dad a "fair" shot at it. Lowered standards would have robbed Dad of the dignity and pride of his achievement. Thank God such was not the case.

Dad, a black man, won Firefighter of the Year because he was the best! Yes, I am a black conservative Republican and proud of it. All you blacks who think the Democrats are your friends, wake up and smell the betrayal."

Probably an item that escaped the attention of a lot of people outside Belgium, especially in the States, but on Monday evening, March 12, a sunni muslim who was illegally in the country entered a shiite mosque in Anderlecht, that's a Brussels suburb, and set fire to the building. TRAGIC BUS CRASH IN SWITZERLAND.

On Tuesday evening at around 9pm a Belgian bus carrying 52 people crashed into a concrete wall in a tunnel on the A9 highway in Switzerland, near the town of Sierre. The bus carried mostly schoolchildren, most of them around 12 years old, and they were returning to Belgium following a ski class in Switzerland, which is common practice in Belgian schools this time of the year.

Thus far there are 28 fatalities.

22 of them are children. 7 of them are Dutch. This is because the victims are a.o. from a school in Lommel, which is near the Dutch border.






As a parent, a father of two kids, who my wife and I love passionately, I can't even begin to comprehend the agony the parents of the victims must now go through. Now. At this very moment. I do not think that in their situation, I would be able to cope. I'm pretty sure of that.

There are no words for this. The carnage was horrifying. Even the hardened Swiss rescue teams had trouble coping with the scene from hell.

I... would like to ask for your thoughts and prayers. To the relatives of the victims we offer our sincere and heartfelt condolences.

Nor is the core issue liberty in its more basic sense – although it would certainly surprise America's founders that their republic of limited government is now the first nation in the developed world to compel private employers to fully fund the sex lives of their employees.
Nor is it even the distinctively American wrinkle the Republic of Paperwork has given to governmentalized health care, under which the "right to privacy" the Supreme Court claimed to have discovered in Griswold vs. Connecticut and Roe vs. Wade will now lead to thousands and thousands of self-insuring employers keeping computer records of the morning-after pills and herpes medication racked up by Miss Jones on reception.

Nor is the issue that America has 30-year-old schoolkids – or even 30-year-old schoolkids who expect someone else to pick up the tab for their extracurricular activities, rather than doing a paper route and a bit of yard work to save up for their first IUD, as we did back in my day. After all, the human right to government-mandated free contraception is as American as apple pie and far healthier for you. In my most recent book, I quote one of Sandra Fluke's fellow geriatrics gamboling in the groves of academe and complaining to the Washington Post about the quality of free condoms therein:

"'If people get what they don't want, they are just going to trash them,' said T Squalls, 30, who attends the University of the District of Columbia. 'So why not spend a few extra dollars and get what people want?'"

All of us are born with the unalienable right to life, liberty and a lifetime supply of premium ribbed silky-smooth, ultrasensitive, spermicidal, lubricant condoms. No taxation without rubberization, as the Minutemen said. The shot heard round the world and all that.

Nor is the core issue that, whatever the merits of government contraception, America is the brokest nation in history – although the Fluke story is a useful reminder that the distinction between fiscal and social conservatism is generally false.

As almost all those fashionable split-the-difference fiscally conservative/socially liberal governors from George Pataki to California's pathetically terminated Terminator eventually discover, their social liberalism comes with a hell of a price tag. Ask the Greeks how easy it is for insolvent nations to wean the populace off unaffordable nanny-state lollipops: When even casual sex requires a state welfare program, you're pretty much done for.

No, the most basic issue here is not religious morality, individual liberty or fiscal responsibility. It's that a society in which middle-age children of privilege testify before the most powerful figures in the land to demand state-enforced funding for their sex lives at a time when their government owes more money than anyone has ever owed in the history of the planet is quite simply nuts.

As stark staring nuts as the court of Ranavalona, the deranged nymphomaniac queen of Madagascar at whose funeral the powder keg literally went up, killing dozens and burning down three royal palaces. Indeed, one is tempted to arrange an introduction between "T Squalls, 30," now 32 going on 33, and Sandra Fluke, 30 going on 31, like a skillfully negotiated betrothal between two royal houses in medieval Europe. The student prince would bring to the marriage his impressive fortune of a decade's worth of Trojan Magnums, while the Princess Leia would have a dowry of index-linked RU 486s settled upon her by HHS the Margravine of Sebelius. They would not be required to produce an heir.

Insane as this scenario is, the Democrat-media complex insists that everyone take it seriously. When it emerged the other day that Amanda Clayton, a 24-year-old Michigan million-dollar lottery winner, still receives $200 of food stamps every month, even the press and the bureaucrats were obliged to acknowledge the ridiculousness. Yet, the same people are determined that Sandra Fluke be treated with respect as a pioneering spokesperson for the rights of the horizontally challenged.

Sorry, I pass.

Almost every matter of the moment boils down to the same story: the Left's urge to narrow the bounds of public discourse and insist that "conventional wisdom" unknown to the world the day before yesterday is now as unquestionable as the Laws of Physics. Nothing that Rush said is as weird or as degrading as what Sandra Fluke and the Obama administration are demanding. And any freeborn citizen should reserve the right to point that out as loudly and as often as possible.

And foreigners do die. USAF Lieutenant Colonel John Loftis, 44, and Army Major Robert Marchanti II, 48, lost their lives not on some mission out on the far horizon in wild tribal lands in the dead of night but in the offices of the Afghan Interior Ministry. In a “secure room” that required a numerical code to access. Gunned down by an Afghan “intelligence officer.” Who then departed the scene of the crime unimpeded by any of his colleagues.

Some news outlets reported the event as a “security breach.” But what exactly was breached? The murderer was by all accounts an employee of the Afghan government, with legitimate rights of access to the building and its secure room, and “liaising” with his U.S. advisers and “mentors” was part of the job. In Afghanistan, foreigners are dying at the hands of the locals who know them best. The Afghans trained by Westerners, paid by Westerners, and befriended by Westerners are the ones who have the easiest opportunity to kill them. It is sufficiently non-unusual that the Pentagon, as is the wont with bureaucracies, already has a term for it: “green-on-blue incidents,” in which a uniformed Afghan turns his gun on his Western “allies".

So we have a convenient label for what’s happening; what we don’t have is a strategy to stop it — other than more money, more “hearts and minds” for people who seem notably lacking in both, and more bulk orders of the bestselling book Three Cups of Tea, an Oprahfied heap of drivel extensively exposed as an utter fraud but which a delusional Washington insists on sticking in the kit bag of its Afghan-bound officer class.

Don’t fancy the tea? A U.S. base in southern Afghanistan was recently stricken by food poisoning due to mysteriously high amounts of chlorine in the coffee. As Navy Captain John Kirby explained, “We don’t know if it was deliberate or something in the cleaning process.”

Oh, dear. You could chisel that on the tombstones of any number of expeditionary forces over the centuries: “Afghanistan. It’s something in the cleaning process.”

In the last couple of months, two prominent politicians of different nations visiting their troops on the ground have used the same image to me for Western military bases: crusader forts. Behind the fortifications, a mini-West has been built in a cheerless land: There are Coke machines and Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Safely back within the gates, a man can climb out of the full RoboCop and stop pretending he enjoys three cups of tea with the duplicitous warlords, drug barons, and pederasts who pass for Afghanistan’s ruling class. The visiting Western dignitary is cautiously shuttled through outer and inner perimeters, and reminded that even here there are areas he would be ill-advised to venture unaccompanied, and tries to banish memories of his first tour all those years ago when aides still twittered optimistically about the possibility of a photo op at a girls’ schoolroom in Jalalabad or an Internet start-up in Kabul."

As I have maintained here on these pages since the very beginning, I support the missions in both Iraq and Afghanistan. And will never regret having done so even if ultimately both enterprises fail. What the West, under US aegis, is doing there, is trying to put a human face on the murderous and insane cult that is islam. In Iraq, we seem to have gotten them at least so far that they don't cave each others heads in when quarreling and try to solve their differences in something that passes for a legislative chamber over there. If we keep believing, of course, that the recent spate of bombing attacks are AQ's work and not some jests between the local lads.

Now, will it all work? Still too soon to say. We must carry on, for the only alternative is the sane part of humanity utterly destroying islam - and THAT will be messy.

In the meantime, we should console ourselves that we are wiping out scores of the more radical footsoldiers. It's something.

Over here in Europe, watching these videos gives me a glimmer of hope. How great is to hear people loudly and proudly proclaim that they are Conservatives!

Unthinkable here in Europe without being ridiculed and demonized! In Belgium, ONLY ONE party more or less approaches the American ideal and that is, of course, the Vlaams Belang.

The degree to which the general population has been spoonfed the age old tantrums about the VB being 'extreme right', 'undemocratic' and 'a descendant of nazism' is astonishing. Just last week I found myself discussing Belgian politics with a sales representative, who I always considered an intelligent, decent and rational human being. It of course turned around the massive new taxes the new Belgian government has introduced, thereby immediately sending shudders through the entire Belgian economy.

How curious was it to hear this man, halfway through the discussion in which he actually agreed with me that this was a fullblooded leftwing government implementing age-old methods that have always proven NOT to work, refer to the Vlaams Belang as being a 'nondemocratic party'!

But why should I be so surprised? After all, all my life I have heard our state-funded media refer to all other parties than the VB as being the 'democratic parties'! As if the VB and its predecessor the Vlaams Blok, which exist solely because they have people voting for them, are somehow political groupuscules from some faraway South American dictatorship where power comes out of the barrel of a gun.

Anyone meeting with today's VB leadership, and reading its very decent and informative party magazine, or its website for that matter, will see firsthand that the decadelong allegations of the VB being a party of closet nazis are so utterly baseless and ridiculous that you would burst out laughing, were it not that it is so tragic.

Anyway...

From one end of the muslim world to the other, Christians are being murdered for their faith.


"We hear so often about Muslims as victims of abuse in the West and combatants in the Arab Spring’s fight against tyranny. But, in fact, a wholly different kind of war is underway—an unrecognized battle costing thousands of lives. Christians are being killed in the Islamic world because of their religion. It is a rising genocide that ought to provoke global alarm.


The portrayal of Muslims as victims or heroes is at best partially accurate. In recent years the violent oppression of Christian minorities has become the norm in Muslim-majority nations stretching from West Africa and the Middle East to South Asia and Oceania. In some countries it is governments and their agents that have burned churches and imprisoned parishioners. In others, rebel groups and vigilantes have taken matters into their own hands, murdering Christians and driving them from regions where their roots go back centuries.

The media’s reticence on the subject no doubt has several sources. One may be fear of provoking additional violence. Another is most likely the influence of lobbying groups such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation—a kind of United Nations of Islam centered in Saudi Arabia—and the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Over the past decade, these and similar groups have been remarkably successful in persuading leading public figures and journalists in the West to think of each and every example of perceived anti-Muslim discrimination as an expression of a systematic and sinister derangement called “Islamophobia”—a term that is meant to elicit the same moral disapproval as xenophobia or homophobia.

But a fair-minded assessment of recent events and trends leads to the conclusion that the scale and severity of Islamophobia pales in comparison with the bloody Christophobia currently coursing through Muslim-majority nations from one end of the globe to the other. The conspiracy of silence surrounding this violent expression of religious intolerance has to stop. Nothing less than the fate of Christianity—and ultimately of all religious minorities—in the Islamic world is at stake.





From blasphemy laws to brutal murders to bombings to mutilations and the burning of holy sites, Christians in so many nations live in fear. In Nigeria many have suffered all of these forms of persecution. The nation has the largest Christian minority (40 percent) in proportion to its population (160 million) of any majority-Muslim country. For years, Muslims and Christians in Nigeria have lived on the edge of civil war. Islamist radicals provoke much if not most of the tension. The newest such organization is an outfit that calls itself Boko Haram, which means “Western education is sacrilege.” Its aim is to establish Sharia in Nigeria. To this end it has stated that it will kill all Christians in the country.

In the month of January 2012 alone, Boko Haram was responsible for 54 deaths. In 2011 its members killed at least 510 people and burned down or destroyed more than 350 churches in 10 northern states. They use guns, gasoline bombs, and even machetes, shouting “Allahu akbar” (“God is great”) while launching attacks on unsuspecting citizens. They have attacked churches, a Christmas Day gathering (killing 42 Catholics), beer parlors, a town hall, beauty salons, and banks. They have so far focused on killing Christian clerics, politicians, students, policemen, and soldiers, as well as Muslim clerics who condemn their mayhem. While they started out by using crude methods like hit-and-run assassinations from the back of motorbikes in 2009, the latest AP reports indicate that the group’s recent attacks show a new level of potency and sophistication.

The Christophobia that has plagued Sudan for years takes a very different form. The authoritarian government of the Sunni Muslim north of the country has for decades tormented Christian and animist minorities in the south. What has often been described as a civil war is in practice the Sudanese government’s sustained persecution of religious minorities. This persecution culminated in the infamous genocide in Darfur that began in 2003. Even though Sudan’s Muslim president, Omar al-Bashir, has been indicted by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, which charged him with three counts of genocide, and despite the euphoria that greeted the semi-independence he grant-ed to South Sudan in July of last year, the violence has not ended. In South Kordofan, Christians are still subject-ed to aerial bombardment, targeted killings, the kidnap-ping of children, and other atrocities. Reports from the United Nations indicate that between 53,000 and 75,000 innocent civilians have been displaced from their resi-dences and that houses and buildings have been looted and destroyed...."

The complicity of the mainstream media and leftwing politicians all over the world in deliberately not reporting on this horrendous state, nor taking steps to remedy it, amounts to a crime. When you know that your neighbour is being murdered and you don't alert the police, you are complicit too. It is just the same. In this time and age, there is no excuse anymore for not knowing this. The editors over at the NYT, Le Monde, the LA Times, The Independent, Aftenposten, The Guardian, NRC Handelsblad...

... they must be knowing that this is happening. I know it, and gathering information and offering analysis and background is not even my field of work. Therefore they must know it too.

Yet they choose to completely ignore it. Instead we should be concerned about... islamophobia, racism, and ... wait for it ... the percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere.



Spread the message, and prepare for the confrontation.

IF EUROPE IS TO SURVIVE, AT SOME POINT DEADLY FORCE AGAINST THE MUSLIM ELEMENT MAY BE THE ONLY OPTION LEFT.

As always far too short on time - only two short topics. But to say they are the tip of the iceberg is to defame what's under the water.

First, a video documenting the sorry state a planned debate at the Université Libre de Bruxelles got in after a muslim ULB assistant(!) disrupted one of the speakers. On Tuesday evening, February 7, a debate between Hervé Hasquin, liberal politician, historian and secretary of the Royal Academy and Caroline Fourest, a French essayist, had been scheduled in an ULB auditorium. The theme was 'Has extreme right become acceptable'? This following the publication of a book by Mrs. Fourest on the rise, in France, of the FN, now under the aegis of Marine Le Pen, daughter of (keep in mind that personally, I don't consider Marine Le Pen, nor the FN, as 'rightwing'.). But in the context of this story it is worth remembering that for those not very well informed, the perception that the FN is rightwing is sufficient.





What should have been a serene debate, what should be NORMAL, has been made impossible by a muslim scumbag on the university's payroll no less (!) by the unsavoury name of Souhail Chichah. In the end, Madame Fourest was forced to leave the auditorium, unable to express her opinion.


Still, this is small beer to what's happening in a thousand places all over Europe, in fact everywhere where the adherents of that so-called 'religion' of islam, achieve a toehold. The
following video sheds some light on the situation in Malmo, a Swedish city which now has 25 per cent muslim inhabitants.





In Europe, there is no place for this wicked and evil creed. If our continent is to survive in any meaningful way, if it wants to safeguard what has been achieved at so high a cost throughout the centuries, it will at some point have to resort to armed violence against its muslim parasites. Forced deportation at gunpoint will be the only solution.

Muslims should be left to rot in their asinine, backward countries. We don't need them and we don't want them.

Washington, DC – The definition above, from an old Webster’s dictionary, was common parlance in the late 1940s and early 1950s as the U.S. House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) investigated subversive activity, Soviet espionage and pro-communist propaganda. The committee unearthed spies and traitors – Alger Hiss among them. But when the HUAC turned its attention to Hollywood writers, directors and actors, civil libertarians cried foul. The American Civil Liberties Union and others insist those on the “Hollywood blacklist” were unfairly persecuted for exercising their constitutionally protected rights to freedom of assembly and speech.
oln2.jpgNow, there’s a new-millennium blacklist for American patriots who fail today’s political correctness test. Lieutenant General Jerry Boykin U.S. Army (Ret.), a highly decorated special operations soldier with 36 years of service in uniform, is the newest name on the roster. The silence from the “civil liberties lobby” is deafening.

It’s often said that our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Guardsmen and Marines serve to “protect our freedoms” and “defend our liberties.” All true. Now consider what took place this week at the United States Military Academy at West Point – an institution responsible for training young men and women to protect America from those who mean us harm. West Point cadets take an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” and to “bear true faith and allegiance to the same.” Many West Point graduates will deploy to fight radical Islamists who commit acts of terror against Americans and our allies.

Yet when the West Point National Prayer Breakfast convenes February 8, the cadets will be deprived of hearing from a world-renowned expert on counterterrorism. General Boykin was a founding member of the elite Delta Force. He commanded the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) and served as deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence. But this week, the Council on American-Islamic Relations put General Boykin on the new blacklist. He won’t be at West Point next week.

CAIR lobbied the academy’s superintendent, Lieutenant General David Huntoon, to rescind General Boykin’s invitation. Apparently the self-esteem of Muslim cadets and Allah’s adherents elsewhere would suffer lasting damage if General Boykin – who is unashamed of his Christian faith, an expert on radical Islam and one of the planet’s foremost practitioners of unconventional warfare – were to speak on these matters.

This isn’t the first time Islamists and leftists have intimidated military leaders here at home and demanded the silencing of Christian voices. In 2010, the Pentagon issued – and subsequently withdrew – an invitation for Franklin Graham to speak at the DoD National Day of Prayer. Earlier that year, Tony Perkins, a former Marine and head of Family Research Council, was invited to speak at a prayer luncheon at Andrews Air Force Base. But when Barack Obama subjected our military to open homosexuals, Perkins was deemed too controversial.

Officials at CAIR claim that their opposition to appearances by people like Boykin or Graham is well-intentioned and argue that remarks deemed critical of Islam can precipitate violence. They do have a point.

Last week, author Salman Rushdie withdrew from a “virtual” appearance at India’s Jaipur Literature Festival because Muslim organizations threatened bloodshed. Since publishing “Satanic Verses” in 1988, Rushdie has received numerous death threats, including a fatwa from Iran’s Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Since then, Rushdie has rarely appeared in public.

Dutch politician Geert Wilders lives under constant threats against his life because of his outspoken views on Islam and his cautions about “Islamification in the Netherlands.”

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, another Dutch political figure who grew up in Somalia, once practiced Islam before renouncing it. Now in the United States, she authored the screen play for Theo van Gogh’s film Submission, a documentary on abuses women suffer in Islamic societies. The movie brought death threats against Ali. Theo van Gogh was murdered in Amsterdam in 2004 by, in writer Theodore Dalrymple’s words, “a young man of Moroccan origin bent on jihad.”

The Bush and Obama administrations both have stressed America is not at war with Islam. That’s understandable. But it makes no sense to deny radical Islamists are at war with us.

Major Nidal Malik Hasan didn’t commit “workplace violence” at Fort Hood when he, according to authorities, killed 13 and wounded dozens of others in 2009. Hasan was tutored by radical Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki – credited with “guiding” the attacker. Yet the official report on the murderous rampage ignores the connection and is silent about Hasan’s alleged motivation.

This is political correctness run amok. That’s why Mr. Obama bans the term “war on terror” in favor of “overseas contingency operation.” It’s why the Department of Homeland Security issued a warning that returning U.S. veterans present a greater danger to America’s security than Islamic terrorists. And that’s why CAIR and the hard-core left in this country can put names like Boykin, Graham and Perkins on their new blacklist.

Apparently, we can’t expect the U.S. government and the ACLU to defend the First Amendment rights of men such as these from outfits such as CAIR. If that’s the case, it’s time for the American people to demand it – before more patriots like General Jerry Boykin get thrown under the Humvee.

Contrast Huntoon to Lt. Gen. Boykin: a distinguished career stretching from Operation Eagle Claw to Operation Iraqi Freedom, in the course of which he was wounded twice, once in Grenada when a .50 round split an armbone in two, and the second time in Mogadishu in 93 during a mortar attack on the US compound there.


Is Boykin a religious nut? As long as General Petraeus is willing to don islamic garb to comfort the REAL religious nuts on America's and the West's battlefields in the War on Islamic Terror, I don't give a hoot. There are those among liberal MSM commentators and Democrat bigshots who suggest Gen. Boykin should see a psychiatrist for his strong religious beliefs. Curiously, these people kept murderously silent when a US Army psychiatrist, also with very strong religious beliefs, butchered 14 of his colleagues shouting Allahu Akbar. But why should we be puzzled by that when even in the Army's ranks itself an outrageous thing like General Casey's 'It would be a tragedy when the Army's diversity was a casualty of the Fort Hood' could be said, with the good - cough - general getting away with it.

Apparently it's not a tragedy when the US Army's diversity that really matters, illustrated by characters like Boykin, suffers. And suffers seriously.

Warning to the US Armed Forces: when the rot sets in at this level, there is serious cause for concern.

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL: NO NEED TO PANIC ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING.

A compelling article in the WSJ, January 27, 2012:

"...A candidate for public office in any contemporary democracy may have to consider what, if anything, to do about "global warming." Candidates should understand that the oft-repeated claim that nearly all scientists demand that something dramatic be done to stop global warming is not true. In fact, a large and growing number of distinguished scientists and engineers do not agree that drastic actions on global warming are needed.

In September, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ivar Giaever, a supporter of President Obama in the last election, publicly resigned from the American Physical Society (APS) with a letter that begins: "I did not renew [my membership] because I cannot live with the [APS policy] statement: 'The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring. If no mitigating actions are taken, significant disruptions in the Earth's physical and ecological systems, social systems, security and human health are likely to occur. We must reduce emissions of greenhouse gases beginning now.' In the APS it is OK to discuss whether the mass of the proton changes over time and how a multi-universe behaves, but the evidence of global warming is incontrovertible?"

In spite of a multidecade international campaign to enforce the message that increasing amounts of the "pollutant" carbon dioxide will destroy civilization, large numbers of scientists, many very prominent, share the opinions of Dr. Giaever. And the number of scientific "heretics" is growing with each passing year. The reason is a collection of stubborn scientific facts.

Perhaps the most inconvenient fact is the lack of global warming for well over 10 years now. This is known to the warming establishment, as one can see from the 2009 "Climategate" email of climate scientist Kevin Trenberth: "The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't." But the warming is only missing if one believes computer models where so-called feedbacks involving water vapor and clouds greatly amplify the small effect of CO2.

The lack of warming for more than a decade—indeed, the smaller-than-predicted warming over the 22 years since the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) began issuing projections—suggests that computer models have greatly exaggerated how much warming additional CO2 can cause. Faced with this embarrassment, those promoting alarm have shifted their drumbeat from warming to weather extremes, to enable anything unusual that happens in our chaotic climate to be ascribed to CO2.

The fact is that CO2 is not a pollutant. CO2 is a colorless and odorless gas, exhaled at high concentrations by each of us, and a key component of the biosphere's life cycle. Plants do so much better with more CO2 that greenhouse operators often increase the CO2 concentrations by factors of three or four to get better growth. This is no surprise since plants and animals evolved when CO2 concentrations were about 10 times larger than they are today. Better plant varieties, chemical fertilizers and agricultural management contributed to the great increase in agricultural yields of the past century, but part of the increase almost certainly came from additional CO2 in the atmosphere."

Among the sixteen signatories to this article, all of them outstanding and renowned scientists, is amongst others Harrison H. Schmitt, Apollo 17 astronaut (the 'Last But One Man on the Moon'), former US Senator, university professor, and a crack geologist.

Who would you trust more: Mr. Schmitt...

If you want to know who I believe, well... I know that the percentage of CO2 is about 0.038 per cent of the atmosphere, and they are talking about an increase representing only the tiniest fraction of THAT as a cause for concern, so I don't even need to say that my *ss is freezing off these days.
