Granted, that's in the old massif of the Harz region. From Schierke, elevation some 600 meters or so, you can climb the Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz, some 1142m if I'm not mistaken. The train is a steam train that takes tourists up to the summit and back. But even so, snowfall like that is extraordinary.
