The Miles brothers: Harry, Herbert, Joseph, and Earle, were film and cinema pioneers in San Francisco. They are best known for "A trip down Market Street", a 12-minute film shot from a cable car conductor's POV. I stumbled upon it following a LiveScience link that's got info on footage from the SF Earthquake of 1906. Fate and good fortune intervened for this gem so that today, we can get a glimpse of what traffic and life was like then in the bustling metropolis. Because it is now assumed that the filmreel was sent by train to New York the night before the earthquake struck, and among the 28,000 buildings it destroyed was the one housing the Miles Brothers' studio!





For me, this Trip clip is also a trip down memory lane, cause in 1995, almost 90 years after the devastating earthquake, I walked myself down Market Street. That summer, I was going to travel the length of the US's West Coast up northwards starting from Frisco with a small international group, and, having arrived two days before them, I found myself with nothing to do but reconnoitre the area. I was staying in the Ramada Hotel on Market Street; walked to its northern end. I also remember strolling over Union Square. Anyway, on Google Earth I checked out how the Ramada was doing these days, and I found out it's now Hotel Whitcomb.

In case you ever wondered how long DowneastBlog has been online, well, last month we passed the 15-year mark. Huzzah!!!




Jawohl indeed, the very first post dates from 11 FEB 2003, although it wasn't written by me. I was hauled on board in 03 allright, but only later in the year, around November, on the invitation of one of the three founding members, Kerry D. (it's a decision she may have come to regret). The other two were Tom D. and Scott F. At the time, they all hailed from Maine, more precisely the south around New Brunswick, which I understand is called the Downeast, hence the blog's name (another question that may or may not have been nagging you).

Anyway, I guess I must have bored them to death since after around 5 and a half years the last one, Scott, quit posting so that today, only yours truly remains trying to bore YOU to death.

And since this is also a Saturday you will forgive Me, Myself and I a fitting celebratory song for having held out so long!

IRISH TAOISEACH LEO VARADKAR REVEALS POPULATION REPLACEMENT SCHEME.

It was a week with quite a few ominous signs for those of us with cream-colored faces. Before I go any further, I'd like to point out to readers not belonging to that club that if you have noticed I'm going down that route, it's rather by outward design than by my own choice. I remember the days when I was barely aware of my being white. As a student in Ghent in the early eighties, among my fellow students and acquaintances there was a Vietnamese, Moroccans, a Congolese (or at least a subsaharan African), and others. I mingled as freely with them as if they were chaps from under the church spires in the villages adjacent to mine.

Many years of leftist fuckwads screaming racism and white supremacy have left their mark though. Maybe it was never their intention that they would actually make us more aware of what we are, and Burke's Law of Unintended Consequences is at work here. Or maybe it was their intention all along, instilling hatred among different groups just because the left thrives on conflicts.

Either way, even if it had been the latter, I still might not have identified as White per se.

HOWEVER...

... I have noticed that where I subconciously somewhat hoped that people of other races would not fall for the leftist ploy to sow division among brown, white, black, red and yellow ... there seem to be too many cases where exactly that is the case. Even worse, significant subgroups of other races seem to eagerly embrace the idea of whitey being pitted against all the rest. In my darker moments, I sometimes muse that they are longing for some global 'Day of Reckoning' against the race that gave the world the automobile, aeroplane, computers and space ships, amongst others. Why, in the week that was, there was the African-American twats doing yoga in Costa Rica while 'taking a break from Whites'. There was the South African government announcing the seizing of land without compensation from White farmers. And, perhaps most ominous of all, the revelation that the new Irish PM, a Leo Varadkar, son of an Indian immigrant and an Irish nurse, intends to move 1 million Third Worlders to Eire in a barely disguised Population Replacement experiment.

And so, whether I like it or not, I do indeed find myself sliding towards a position where it's 'so you really wanna play that game??? Oooo-kay, you'll get what you want. I'm in'.

As for the example I mentioned above, the Irish had it coming, what with their recent warming up to loony lefty dadas. Be careful what you wish for, I says. Though in fairness, Varadkar the gay multiculti pantywaist was never elected by the people to be their taoiseach. Instead, it was the top brass creeps of Fine Gael putting him in the PM post, a top brass that, having fanatically pushed for gay marriage and normalizing abortion, gave the distinct impression of wanting to be even more fashionable than the self-hating, non-replicating, gay-smitten, gaia-worshipping continental leftozoids.

Unveiled by the government last week with a commitment to spend €116 billion, the document outlines plans to boost the Irish nation’s 4.7 million population by another million using mass migration.

It can be posited with mathematical certainty that if this social engineering folly would be allowed to go forward as planned, Ireland will suffer a fate akin to Rhodesia and, soon, South Africa.

I've been three times to Ireland so far and I like the Irish (though as a people I find them somewhat of the navel-staring kind, but then all of us euros have our peculiarities).

I fell in love with Queen's View outside Killarney, munched a modest hiker's meal near the highest loch in the McGillycuddy Reeks, stood on top of Carrauntoohil, walked the holy grounds of Glendalough, marveled at the beauty of Powerscourt Castle and its breathtaking gardens, went up Lugnaquilla, enjoyed the summer sun and Riviera sand in Barley Cove, walked the streets in quaint Clifden, took pics of our son near the Alcock and Brown monument, enjoyed a barista's latte macchiato in Longford of all places, climbed Croagh Patrick and looked out over magnificent Clew Bay, visited Gallarus Oratory, Bantry House, and Newgrange, mused at Heinrich Böll's cottage on Achill Island, looked out from Conor and Healey Pass, read W.B. Yeats poems in Lissadel House (and prayed at his grave with Ben Bulben at the horizon), took pics of the transatlantic cable monument on Valentia Island, and looked awestruck at the volumes and volumes and volumes and volumes of learned books in Trinity College's Long Room Library:





Oh, and I'd like to climb Errigal and Mount Brandon too.


So, NO. No Nigerian gangs robbing the Irish citizens from the Blasket Islands to County Donegal. To paraphrase Obummer, the future must not belong to those who will slander Edmund Burke, prove to be lousy stewards of guided Boyne battlefield tours and even lousier ones of famine cottages on Dingle, and generally lay waste to the Emerald Island. If Varadkar per se wants to suck Nigerian dicks, let him do so in Lagos (and stay there).


If this madness will come to pass, the Irish have not only the right, but also the duty, to take up arms and fight their government.

Marine Le Pen's conviction is a replay of the old stories of yore in which hapless messengers of bad news were punished, sometimes with death as a result. Which, naturally, did nothing to counter the threat of which the messenger brought news.

WARMING HOLE SPOTTED ON ZUGSPITZE, GERMANY'S HIGHEST MOUNTAIN.

Last week, this here humble blog informed you of the existence of the so-called Warming Holes, i.e. places on Earth where Mother Nature refuses to follow the computer models.

Such a warming hole has now been detected on the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain:





Meteorologist Dominik Jung of the website wetter.net announced that last night, on the Zugspitze the lowest temperature for the end of February in 117 years was measured, minus 30.5 degrees Centigrade. "It was really extreme", dixit Jung.

Al Gore could not be reached for comment. Leonardo di Caprio, currently residing at France's Côte d'Azur, will step in however, once he has recovered from a severe cold.

Meanwhile young Muslim men of fighting age often cost 8000 USD per month, and pretend to be children, rape and murder schoolchildren, and are housed in expensive housing normally reserved for the well-to-do.

This soup kitchen in the northern German town of Essen is forced to close its doors due to the violent behavior of these orcs, who scream in Arabic and African dialects, push, hit and threaten the old widows who stand in line for some partly rotten vegetables.

The socialist left and the Greens hurl racism accusations at the many volunteers who freely gather and share whatever the supermarkets throw away.

And the many scared, poor old widows, the weakest of society’s weak, whose only outside contact is in the weekly queue a the soup kitchen, stay away, remain home alone and go hungry."

THE DHIMMITUDE OF THE SHEEP.

Mark Steyn, the indefatigable chronicler of the West's enthusiastic suicide is his usual brilliant self in "The State Submits", via Steyonline, February 21, 2018:

"I've written many times over the last decade and a half about that rare bird the "moderate Muslim". Surely one reason for his scarceness is that, whenever he pops his head above the parapet, he's hung out to dry by craven infidel politicians and bureaucrats, who on the whole find the admirably straightforward demands of your average firebreathing imam more congenial. Hence the pandering to returning Isis warriors: Mods vs Raqqa's - it's no contest.

The latest examples are the headmistress and chairman of the board of governors of St Stephen's Primary School in Newham, East London. St Stephen, you'll recall, was the first Christian martyr, but observant Christians are thinner on the ground in today's Newham than they were in first-century Jerusalem. So St Stephen's School today is mostly Muslim. Nevertheless:


~ In June last year, [headmistress Neena] Lall removed the hijab from the school uniform for girls aged seven and under and tried to curb young children from fasting at school in case they became unwell.


Good for her. Hijabs for under-sevens? If you're in most Muslim countries, you notice that the gals don't disappear under the veil until puberty: Covered kindergartners is largely a western phenomenon.

So there would appear to be no reason for a "moderate" or any other kind of Muslim to object to what Mrs Lall was proposing. Alas:


~ St. Stephen's School in East London recently imposed a ban on hijabs (Islamic headscarves), but reversed its decision after administrators received hundreds of threats from enraged Muslims.

Among the targeted officials from the primary school was the head of governors, Arif Qawi, who had supported the ban on the grounds that the girls wearing hijabs were less likely to integrate socially with their peers. As a result of the outcry, Qawi submitted his resignation, saying that members of the staff were afraid to come to the school.

Head teacher Neena Lall, whose educational philosophy has turned St. Stephen's into one of the best secular primary schools in Britain's capital -- in spite of its being in Newham, a poor neighborhood where English is spoken predominantly as a second language -- was bombarded with e-mails calling her a "pedophile" who "deserved what she had coming." Lall, of Punjabi origin, was even compared to Hitler in a video uploaded to YouTube."

... "But serious persons understand the score here: the ban on hijabs has been reversed, and the "moderate Muslim" has gone - and physical intimidation, nudged and winked at by prominent community leaders and politicians, has been rewarded.

I've written previously how odd it is to stroll around, say, Newham and see a harder, fiercer Islam than one would encounter in Amman or Cairo - like hijab-clad grade-schoolers. But the reasoning lies in Mr Qawi's wish to "turn these beautiful children into modern British citizens". If that is the last thing you want these children to become, then the best way to do it is by segregating them from modern Britain. Which is why primary-school hijabs are necessary in London but not in Tripoli. If you leave it till twelve or thirteen, your daughters may have formed friendships with indifidel girls and be reluctant to climb into their body bags. Better to mandate the shroud in kindergarten - so the friendships never form. Once the transition is complete and Britain is a fully-fledged member of the dar al-Islam, then we can lighten up and let the middle-schoolers enjoy a little sunshine on their faces. But, as long as "moderates" are peddling dangerous talk about "modern British citizens", then the logical answer is to be even more hardcore. Are they wearing hijabs in the maternity ward yet?

~By middle school, anyway, a nice young Muslima should be on her way to children of her own. Thirty-two-year-old Ahmad married his first wife, Lina, when she was thirteen. He married his third, Betool, when she was fourteen. That would have been statutory rape not so long ago, but instead Ahmad gets to live with both wives and his six children in a two-story house in Schleswig-Holstein paid for, like everything else in the illiterate unskilled unemployed refugee's life, by German taxpayers.

As if the above isn't depressing enough, from my own country comes the news that in Maasmechelen, an eastern city in the province of Limburg, which harbors a dispoportionately large muslim population, the local GO school network (GO = Gemeenschapsonderwijs) has capitulated before a demand to re-allow the wearing of headscarves for eleven girls who refused to remove the islamic headgear:

"A law banning the full-face veil came into effect in Belgium in July 2011. The law bans any clothing that obscures the identity of the wearer in places like parks and on the street. In December 2012, Belgium's Constitutional Court rejected appeals for the ban to be annulled, ruling that it did not violate human rights. Before the law was passed, the burka was already banned in several districts under old local laws originally designed to stop people masking their faces completely at carnival time.

The above didn't go down well with the local Islamic population who took Belgium to court on a number of occasions in which to win the right to cover up. That last was last year when the European Court of Human Rights ruled that Belgium's ban on face veils does not violate the European Convention on Human Rights.

Not ones to give up, the Muslims then took the government to court in the Belgique municipality of Maasmechelen and today a judge in Tongeren decided that 11 school girls have a right to cover up as the school regulations go against the European Convention on Human Rights, which guarantees freedom of religion.

I wonder when we will see the reverse in Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and parts of Pakistan?"

IN CASTEL VOLTURNO, ITALY, NIGERIAN GANGS RULE THE STREETS.

Castel Volturno is a Naples suburb and has become a symbol of the forthcoming elections. This city of 30,000 'boasts' around 20,000 migrants. The state has promised 21 million EUR "for security and integration".

The city has fallen prey to marauding Nigerian gangs and throngs of African illegals. Life must be hell for the authochtons.

Those 21 million EUR could be put to much better use for the Italians themselves. But that is not going to be. They will be spent for tasks which WOULDN'T be necessary - "security" and "integration" - if only Europe's powers-that-be had had the backbone to protect the European borders. Not only that, but they will even be spent in vain - for there is no solving the crime problem anymore unless you deploy the army, and there's simply no integrating people who have actually brought Africa with them.

But then I guess this flood from across the Med and from the ME is all part of a sinister scheme to supplement, and if necessary replace, Europe's ageing and dwindling population.

That's ponderous pseudoscientific babble which in normal speak can be translated as: "We really don't understand why Mother Nature downright refuses to follow our computer models but we're trying to sell you an explanayshun anyway".

And:

"The U.S. “Warming Hole” is a region in the eastern United States that experienced a broad decline in temperatures beginning in the late 1950's. The warming hole is fundamentally different than global temperature trends, which have been rising since 1880. There are several ideas as to why the warming hole exists, but most cannot fully explain the observed temperature patterns."

So if your ass is freezing off in Savannah, Georgia, don't you worry. It's just that you find yourself in a shitho, erm, a Warming Hole!

KEHINDE WILEY, PAINTER OF OFFICAL BARACK OBAMA PORTRAIT, PREVIOUSLY PAINTED BLACK WOMEN WITH SEVERED HEADS OF WHITE WOMEN.

As per usual, our media were engaging in yet another fawnfest upon learning of the unveiling of the official portraits of Barack and Michelle Obama. I'm nog going to dwell on Michelle's. It's substandard, and she's even unrecognizable.

But what our journos unanimously fail to mention is that Kehinde Wiley, the artist who painted Obummer's likeness, in 2012 crafted two 'works' depicting black women with the heads of decapitated white women. Via The Telegraph:

At the time, Wiley told The New York Times that he was inspired by the classical European depictions of Bible stories by Caravaggio and Gentileschi, only he chose to depict Judith as a black woman and Holoferne as a white woman. He commented: “It’s sort of a play on the ‘kill whitey’ thing”.

No president has done so much to fan the flames of racial unrest as the Obamination. OF COURSE he chose this creature to paint his official portrait. That Kehinde Wiley is gay can only have helped.

Manchester Art Gallery, in northern England, took down "Hylas and the Nymphs" by John William Waterhouse last week, partly in light of the cultural #MeToo movement, which aims to highlight the mistreatment of women.

In a blog post about the removal, the gallery said: "We have left a temporary space in Gallery 10 in place of 'Hylas and the Nymphs' by JW Waterhouse to prompt conversation about how we display and interpret artworks in Manchester’s public collection."

The oil painting, completed in 1896, shows the mythological figure of Hylas, one of the Argonauts who joined Jason on a quest to retrieve a magical golden fleece.

At one point in the voyage, Hylas strayed from the group and met a group of nymphs, magical woman-like creatures with a reputation for being beautiful, naked, and treacherous. He was abducted and never seen again, the moment depicted in the painting."

According to The Guardian, gallery curator Clare Gannaway said the Time's Up and #MeToo cultural movements "fed into the decision" to take the picture down.

The report suggested that the painting could be put back later, depending on the public response.

Christoph Berndt from the Zukunft Heimat alliance called in his speech on the mayor of Cottbus, Holger Kelch, to set up an account for the 16-year-old German, who was injured on January 17, to pay for any necessary cosmetic surgical treatments. For this purpose, donations were also collected during the demonstration. In addition, Berndt said, a contact group for those victims of violence by refugees has to be set up.

Refugees are not an enrichment, but a threat speakers said. They accused politicians of abandoning their people...."

Next week, on Sunday 28 January, Finland has presidential elections. Laura Huhtasaari is a candidate for the Finns (formerly the True Finns) party:





To be sure, it's as good as certain that the incumbent president, Sauli Niinisto, an former candidate for the Conservative party who now runs as an independent, will be elected for a second six-year term. No, sorry, make that a 100 per cent certain. He's been a fairly good steward of the Finnish economy plus, has normalized relations with his mighty neighbor. In the case of the Finns it's quite understandable that cocky behaviour in foreign policy is an unaffordable luxury.

But what is important is that the Finns keep building up the pressure on him to resist the multiculti nonsense and the Diktats from the EU, of which Finland has been a member since 1995. It is important - for the no. 2 candidate in the polls, with 14 per cent, is actually the candidate of the Green Party, Pekka Haavisto. Having studied social 'studies' at the University of Helsinki (without completing the degree), not having served in the Finnish Army but having opted for non-military service instead, being openly gay (in a registered partnership with an Ecuadorian), and all sold on multiculti phantasmagorias despite the many problems caused by new Finns from (mainly) Somalia, Haavisto is the perfect watermelon candidate.

Jordan Peterson is professionally a Professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto and politically a liberal.

There's more significance here than meets the eye. I... dare hope, and even posit, that Mr Peterson's performance here is more than one lucky shot for the Right in the culture wars. Peterson, who in 2013 began recording his lectures and uploading them to his YouTube channel (which by now has over 600,000 subscribers), is part of a growing number of prominent personalities on the Right who seem to be grasping what benefits the new digital communication avenues can bring them.

On this here humble blog, I have stated several times that our real enemy is not 'islam'. I even borrowed a couple of times a line from Oliver Stoned, a soundbite he used in his 86 flick Platoon: "The enemy is in us". And it is, though not in the context of that movie, but in our daily lives, in our interactions at school, university, the workplace, the cinemas, the family even. The enemy is in us to an extent that the Left has convinced far too many of us that we should hate ourselves for what we are and have done.

If we had not allowed a gazillion of leftist/greenish dogmas and phantasmagorias to poison the minds of generations, the West would not find itself in such a dire predicament as it is today.

I've been mulling it over. The emergence of a leader like President Trump and the appearance of a personality like Peterson are not coincidences... but maybe, possibly, signs that a great turnover in the Right's fortunes is just over the horizon.

Oh yes, I would counsel against too much optimism.

And yet I'm reminded of that famous WSC quote, pronounced after the Battle of El Alamein.

LOWER SAXONY, GERMANY: ONE IN THREE MUSLIM STUDENTS WILLING TO FIGHT AND DIE FOR ISLAM.

"A survey of schools in the German region of Lower Saxony has shown that close to 10 per cent of Muslim students have direct sympathies for radical Islamic groups like Islamic State and some even support acts of terrorism.

One in three of the Muslim students who responded to the survey said that they would be willing to fight and die for Islam.

Twenty-seven per cent said they agreed with the statement: “The Islamic laws of Sharia, according to which, for example, adultery or homosexuality are severely punished, are much better than the German laws,” Die Welt reports.

Eight per cent said they agreed with the creation of an Islamic empire or caliphate in the Middle East through the use of force. A further 3.8 per cent said they agreed that sometimes it was justified for Muslims to engage in acts of terrorism to further their goals.

A fifth of the Muslim students agreed that Muslims are oppressed all over the world and they have to defend themselves by force, and 18.6 per cent said that it was the duty of Muslims to spread Islam and “fight unbelievers”.

The results come from a study conducted in 2015 that had previously not been made public. Criminologist Christian Pfeiffer made the data public as part of his own study into the cause of immigrant crime. The authors of the original study point out that only 280 Muslim students answered the survey but added that the results were noteworthy."

I checked out this Christian Pfeiffer and he seems to be a man with considerable stature in his line of, ahem, work. He was a Professor of Criminology at the Justice faculty of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität in Hanover. He's also a former Director of the Kriminologischen Forschungsinstituts Niedersachsen (KFN). And, from 2000 to 2003, Justice Minister in Lower Saxony.

So I guess that when it is a socialist telling us that one in three muslim students are prepared to wage jihad in Lower Saxony, well...

BAF F-16 DETACHMENT BACK FROM JORDAN.

On DEC 26, 2017, the BAF F-16 detachment took off from their base in Jordan for the last time and flew back to Belgium, a trip which took 6 hours and during which they were refuelled by an Armée de l'Air tanker. During one and a half year, from July 1, 2016 to December 26, 2017, the jets (during the first year 6, from July 2017 4), logged 6,108 flying hours. Like in the previous deployments, the BAF air strikes accounted for 5 per cent of the coalition total. More info here. As before, the Dutch Air Force will now take over.





Before long, another detachment of 4 planes which operated from Amari AFB, Estonia since September 4, will also return home. They had been posted there in the framework of NATO's Enhanced Air Policing Mission. This deployment was the seventh.





The two simultaneous missions, although still very modest, leave open the question of what the Belgian military would be capable of if only it did not have to operate on less than a shoestring budget. There is indeed no department that has had to cut its budget for so long and so profoundly like defense.

As for the venerable F16's successor, another one of the candidates for replacement, Boeing with its F/A-18 Super Hornet, pulled out of the bidding process in April of 2017 already. The Saab Gripen is also out of the question since it cannot be equipped with nuclear weapons. The French government just recently probably overplayed its hand in promising Belgium 20 billion EUR in economic compensations if the BAF would decide for the Dassault Rafale. So basically there are only two serious contenders left: the Eurofighter Typhoon and the Lockheed Martin F-35A. The latter would be the most logical choice since it is truly a 5th generation aircraft, now outgrowing its development difficulties fast, but more importantly, the Dutch already use it (as do the Norwegians) and if the anti-ISIS operations over Syria and Iraq, and before that, the missions in Afghanistan, have shown anything, it's that by using the same aircraft the air forces of the Low Countries can and will develop even more synergies. A final decision is expected in the course of this year. It's about time.

"A man armed with a machete assaulted an elderly volunteer worker at a homeless shelter in Shelburne, Vt., Friday morning, according to local police.

32-year-old Abukar Ibrahim attacked a 73-year-old Meals on Wheels volunteer while she was delivering food to Harbor Place, which provides temporary emergency housing to those in need. While in the office, the female victim reportedly saw Ibrahim vandalizing her car. When she confronted him and tried to intervene, the man became violent, assaulting her with a machete, according to police.

The woman was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center with multiple injuries, including a “significant leg wound.” She received treatment and was later released.

In the wake of the attack, Ibrahim, who police identified as the assailant, barricaded himself in a room for two and a half hours. He supposedly taunted police officers from inside the room before deciding to come out and surrender. The attacker was sent to the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility on charges of attempted murder."

“We’re suspecting that it’s a hand grenade of some sort,” Lars Alvarsjo, chief of Stockholm’s southern police district, told the Swedish national broadcaster SVT.

Mr Alvarsjo said Swedish police have “unfortunately” noticed a rise in the use of hand grenades by criminal groups in the Nordic country. The three biggest cities in Sweden – Stockholm, Goteborg and Malmo – have seen several violent gang-related incidents in the past few years. Many of the illegal hand grenades found in Sweden are being imported from former Yugoslav nations, he said.

Yeah right. Violent gang-related incidents. Gangs with Lars, Jens, Per and Agneta on the payroll no doubt.

In 2002, Mona Sahlin, a prominent politician of the Swedish Social Democrats, adressed members of Euroturk, a Turkish youth organization, saying:

Interior Minister Jan Jambon after unruly New Year's night: "What happened in Brussels yesterday really cannot pass."

"In Molenbeek there were riots between 11pm and 2am this morning, Police Chief Johan Berckmans of Brussels West (Jette/Ganshoren/Koekelberg/Sint-Agatha-Berchem/Sint-Jans-Molenbeek) says. Groups of youths lit car tires in the neighborhood of Leopold II Avenue and at the metro station Zwarte Vijvers, and subsequently pelted police and fire crews with stones. Some three vehicles were lightly damaged. "The firefighting vehicle was pelted with stones and got damaged, but luckily none of our men were wounded", says Fire Department spokesman Pierre Meys. At the West Station a car was torched too. For the moment no suspects have been arrested, but police is investigating several people."

Yet all of that is small beer compared to France, where across the country a staggering 1,031 vehicles were set ablaze and the police and security services arrested some 510 individuals:

A LUNAR BASE IN THE NEXT DECADE?

I am currently reading Andy Weir's latest, Artemis, and while so far I'm finding it a lesser opus than The Martian (I'm not the only one, it seems), it's doable. The story is set in Earth's first Moon base, called, you guess it, Artemis. More on the book later, when and if I get through it. But the story fired up my imagination, so I checked out how far actual plans to build such a base stand.

Turns out, relatively promising.

Last year, The Daily Mail had a rather jubilant piece on the possibility of there being a Moon Base quite soon, possibly from 2022 on. I don't believe a word of that, but the article is at least convincing in making the case that the technologies envisaged are already there.


Here's a glimpse of what such a base might look like, courtesy the European Space Agency (ESA) and architectural firm Foster + Partners. Inflatable habitats to be covered by robots capable of 3D-printing, with the bulk of the printed stuff actually made out of the Moon's regolith. The capsules transporting the habitats would then serve as airlocks:

Re the vehicular jihadist who mowed down 19 people in Melbourne almost a week ago, the Master Chronicler of the West's own organized demise is his usual brilliant self in this article.

"So there will be more empty seats round the Christmas table this year, after an "Australian citizen" mowed down pedestrians at the junction of Flinders Street and Elizabeth Street in Melbourne. The casualties include "a pre-schooler with serious head injuries". The "Australian citizen" (I presume this designation is being used to emphasize that he's entirely eligible to serve in Mr Turnbull's cabinet) did it deliberately, but relax, lighten up, there's no need to worry because, according to Victoria's police commissioner, all this terrifying terror is "not terror-related".

So he's not a crack operative with the Islamic State's Australian branch office, he's just, as The Age's cheery headline writer puts it, "of Afghan descent and mentally ill". A second man, arrested while filming the scene and found to have three knives in his bag, is believed to be nothing to do with the first man. Just another Australian citizen taking his knife collection out for a stroll.

You'll recall there was a previous "vehicle attack" in downtown Melbourne earlier this year, after which the authorities ordered up the bollardization of every pedestrianized precinct in the vicinity. As Andrew Bolt writes:


~ All the bollards put up after six people were killed in Bourke St Mall in January have not stopped this.


After the Halloween jihadist killed eight people on a bike path in Lower Manhattan, New York's bollardizers commanded similarly extravagant installation of Diversity Bollards up and down the city. As I wrote:


~ Last week I was tootling through Williston, Vermont, which has just reconfigured its highway system to run green-painted bike paths down the center of the streets. And the thought occurred to me that, once you've bollarded off every sidewalk, what's to stop jihadists mowing down cyclists? After all, if the eco-crowd are installing them in the middle of the roadway, they're kind of hard to bollard off.


I was over-thinking the issue. One of the problems with bollarding off pedestrians behind a wall of Diversity Bollards is that they still occasionally have to emerge from behind the bollards to cross the street, and it's hard to bollard off a pedestrian crossing. In this case, the non-terror-related Australian citizen simply waited until the little green sign indicated it was safe for pedestrians to cross the street and then floored it. In an amusing touch, his car eventually came to a rest against a bollard.

What's the solution? Maybe automobile manufacturers could replace airbags with Diversity Bollards timed to inflate whenever non-terror-related drivers with mental-health issues accelerate near pedestrian crossings. Or perhaps it would be easier to issue citizens of western nations at birth with an individual ring of bollards to wear about their persons at all time, starting with when they leave the maternity ward.

Alternatively, instead of attempting to ring-fence every potential target - ie, everything and everyone - with Diversity Bollards, we could try installing bollards where they matter - around the civilized world. To reiterate what I reiterated last time:

~ I don't want to get used to it - and I reiterate my minimum demand of western politicians that I last made after the London Bridge attacks: How many more corpses need to pile up on our streets before you guys decide to stop importing more of it?

If your congressman or senator says that's not on his agenda, what he means is he's willing to sacrifice you and your loved ones in the suicide lottery of diversity."

Coincidentally, at around the same time Mr Steyn's piece went up, Alexander Naessens, widower of Ann-Laure Decadt, felt compelled to teach The Great Unwashed a lesson in morality. Who is, or rather was, Ann-Laure Decadt? She is the Belgian mother of two who was one of 8 deadly victims in the OCT 31, 2017 terror attack in Lower Manhattan, when Uzbek Sayfullo Saipov plowed his pickup truck into bikers in Lower Manhattan, injuring and maiming eleven more besides killing Decadt, five Argentinians, and two Americans. "On the perpetrator of the attack Naessens has no feelings. "No positive, no negative. At this point, my sorrow is too big yet to leave room for anger and feelings of revenge."

Naessens exhorts the population to not resort now to black-and-white thinking about "certain population groups". "My wife would also have liked it that way. She was a very positive person and gave everybody a second chance. She gave every beggar money, sometimes until it annoyed me."

Right. Do not "resort to black and white thinking about "certain population groups". Which sane people translate as "By all means let no one think this has ANYTHING to do with islam." Even when Saipov shouted "Allahu Akbar" when he got out of the pickup, prayed at a mosque under surveillance in Paterson, NJ, and asked staff in the hospital where he was treated afterwards (a shot in the stomach put him down), to hang an ISIS flag in his room.




"I hope that terrorism will not split up society".

YOU F*CKING IDIOT. In case you didn't notice, society IS already split up. Which is what you get when "certain population groups" definitely DON'T want to intermingle with the original locals. Molenbeek is 80 per cent muslim JUST BECAUSE "certain population groups" DON'T want infidels living among and near them!

Mr. Naessens' outrageous words are reminiscent of the French"man" Antoine Leiris, who, post the Bataclan and other muslim terror attacks in Paris during which he lost his wife, proudly exclaimed "that you will not have my hatred". At the time, I had a small post up about his unsavoury sermon here.


The tragic case of Ann-Laure Decadt follows, a.o., that of Elke Vanbockrijck, a Belgian mother of two who was killed with thirteen others in the islamic terror attacks in Barcelona on August 17 last summer...





(I bet you had already forgotten about that)...


... and that of Mailys Dereymaeker, a mother of one from Halle, central Belgium, who was killed when a follower of the prophet plowed his truck into a shopping crowd in Stockholm in April of this year:





Miss Dereymaeker worked as a psychologist in asylum centers, where she counseled people like Rakhmat Akilov, who reduced her to a gory, bloody mess necessitating almost two days
before she could be identified:






As long as society remains more paralyzed with fear of telling the truth regarding the terror - i.e. the islamic faith and islamic terror are two sides of the same coin - than with fear for the actual attacks themselves, nothing will change.

And more Belgian women will return home in bodybags. Insofar they haven't been killed here. Along with other, ah, genders.


In short, do not heed the messages by the likes of Alexander Naessens. The Alexander Naessens types are symptoms of the disease.

MUSLIMS OPENLY CALLING FOR MURDER OF JEWS IN MALMO, PARIS, LONDON AND VIENNA.

In the wake of President Trump announcing his plans to relocate the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, in Malmo, Sweden, hundreds of Muslims took to the streets chanting antisemitic slogans and warning that “the Jews should remember that the army of Muhammad will return”.

“We have announced the intifada from Malmö. We want our freedom back, and we will shoot the Jews,” according to Sveriges Radio.



Earlier, a synagogue had been firebombed in Gothenburg.


Another anti-Israel demo took place in Paris on the Place de la République, Jewish News reports:

"And in France, around 400 people gathered at Republique square Saturday, where they cheered when an organiser, wearing a shirt that promotes a boycott of Israel, said: “This demonstration is also about freedom for Hassan Hamouri, Marwan Barghouti and all the Palestinian prisoner.” The crowd shouted back: “Freedom to the Palestinian prisoners.”

In Vienna, it was the same story. Also via Jewish News:

"Earlier that day in Vienna, hundreds of participants in rally shouted in Arabic, “Jews, remember Khaybar, the army of Muhammad is returning.” The cry relates to an event in the seventh century when Muslims massacred and expelled Jews from the town of Khaybar, located in modern-day Saudi Arabia."

So they are calling for the murder of Jews and the coppers do nothing. In a country where a couple of years ago Liberty GB's Paul Weston was arrested for quoting Churchill.

Europe is probably lost, but other continents still have the means to turn back the muslim tide.
