WALTER WILLIAMS ON THE BLACK EDUCATION TRAGEDY.

An interesting angle to look at the Zimmerman trial - BTW, the man is innocent, it's only the usual leftard dickheads who for unfathomable reasons are the real ones trying to divide the country - is offered by Walter Williams. As per usual, Professor Williams is right on the money. From Townhall:

"As if more evidence were needed about the tragedy of black education, Rachel Jeantel, a witness for the prosecution in the George Zimmerman murder trial, put a face on it for the nation to see. Some of that evidence unfolded when Zimmerman's defense attorney asked 19-year-old Jeantel to read a letter that she allegedly had written to Trayvon Martin's mother. She responded that she doesn't read cursive, and that's in addition to her poor grammar, syntax and communication skills.

Jeantel is a senior at Miami Norland Senior High School. How in the world did she manage to become a 12th-grader without being able to read cursive writing? That's a skill one would expect from a fourth-grader. Jeantel is by no means an exception at her school. Here are a few achievement scores from her school: Thirty-nine percent of the students score basic for reading, and 38 percent score below basic. In math, 37 percent score basic, and 50 percent score below basic. Below basic is the score when a student is unable to demonstrate even partial mastery of knowledge and skills fundamental for proficient work at his grade level. Basic indicates only partial mastery.

 photo rachel-jeantel_zpsfe2d1cae.jpg

It's not just Florida's schools. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, nationally most black 12th-graders test either basic or below basic in reading, writing, math and science. Drs. Abigail and Stephan Thernstrom wrote in their 2004 book, "No Excuses: Closing the Racial Gap in Learning," "Blacks nearing the end of their high school education perform a little worse than white eighth-graders in both reading and U.S. history, and a lot worse in math and geography." Little has changed since the book's publication.

Few Americans, particularly black Americans, have any idea of the true magnitude of the black education tragedy. The education establishment might claim that it's not their fault. They're not responsible for the devastation caused by female-headed families, drugs, violence and the culture of dependency. But they are totally responsible for committing gross educational fraud. It's educators who graduated Jeantel from elementary and middle school and continued to pass her along in high school. It's educators who will, in June 2014, confer upon her a high-school diploma...."

And then of course, the usual suspects from the academia jump in, with their false and/or evasive manoeuvres:

"...Drexel University history and political science professor George Ciccariello-Maher disapprovingly says that the reaction to Jeantel's court performance "has been in terms of aesthetics, of disregarding a witness on the basis of how she talks, how good she is at reading and writing." Harking back to Jim Crow days, he adds: "These are subtle things that echo literacy testing at the polls, echo the question of whether black Americans can testify against white people, of being always suspect in their testimony. It's the same old dynamics emerging in a very different guise." Then there's Morgan Polikoff, assistant professor of education at the University of Southern California, who says: "Cursive should be allowed to die. In fact, it's already dying, despite having been taught for decades."

Totally Polikoff-topic. Unbelievable, what a lame excuse to not address the heartbreaking problem. Williams:

"That's the kind of educational philosophy that accounts for much of our nation's educational decline."

Goddam true.

"...The educational system and black family structure and culture have combined to make increasing numbers of young black people virtually useless in the increasingly high-tech world of the 21st century. Too many people believe that pouring more money into schools will help. That's whistlin' "Dixie." Whether a student is black or white, poor or rich, there are some minimum requirements that must be met in order to do well in school. Someone must make the student do his homework, see to it that he gets a good night's sleep, fix a breakfast, make sure he gets to school on time and make sure he respects and obeys his teachers. Here are my questions: Which one of those requirements can be achieved through a higher school budget? Which can be achieved by politicians? If those minimal requirements aren't met, whatever else is done is mostly for naught.

I hope Rachel Jeantel's court performance is a wake-up call for black Americans about the devastation wrought by our educational system."

I suppose Outlaw Mike is a racist again for posting the above graph. Nothing could be further from the truth of course, the REAL racists are the leftards themselves, who have caused the black education tragedy to happen. Just as it was not Mitt Romney 'who would put y'all (that's YOU, Blacks) in chains', according to that IDIOT and most sorry excuse for a Veep ever Joe Biden. NO, it's people like BIDEN who have already been keeping blacks in chains for AGES. Let Black people embrace conservative values, the IQ jumps fifteen-twenty points in a matter of two generations. But no, they perform so bad because of evil white racists and that problem will be addressed by pouring even more money into the bottomless pits of the NAACP and an already bankrupt education system, and by lowering the standards for black students. In other words, the Easy, Costly, and Utterly Ineffective Measures the leftist bozos are so fond of.

Prof Williams offers the answer. But because he is black himself, he's an Uncle Tom. End of story.

The older I get, the more I'm convinced leftism is a Disease of the Mind.

WHY RUSSIAN DRIVERS INSTALL DASHBOARD CAMERAS.

And for every one of those lucky devils there's, how many? for whom it's the end of the road:

Somewhat surprisingly with so many road cowboys on the loose, Russia still has 'only' about double the traffic accident death rate of my own country, Belgium (19.5 per 100,000 inhabitants per year vs. 10.1).

A DAY OUT IN THE ARDENNES.

Finally gorgeous weather, neither the kids nor the wife in the mood to venture outside - that is, outside the grounds of Chateau Outlaw - so me off to the Ardennes again. Later this summer I intend to pick up the climbing thread again and hiking in the Ardennes this Sunday afternoon would give me an indication of what my seriously damaged back allows at this point in time.

A southward view of the E411, Belgium's main highway cutting through the Ardennes. Pic taken from the Viaduc de Custinne. In the distance, the blue-green of the Ardennes beckon. Follow this highway another 100 kloms or so and you're in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

The inside of the ruins of the Chateau d'Herbeumont. Sorry, really got no time to elaborate.

A view on the Semois river meandering it's way through the hills. Note: the green sliver in the center is NOT the 'Tombeau du Chevalier'. That's the ridge in lighter green immediately to the right of this one.

A view of a slice of the Semois - the actual river is just beyond the grassy islet in the center of the photo. Photo taken from the finger of land known as the 'Tombeau du Chevalier'. Its more prosaic name is 'Presqu'ile de Boult'.

View of the Ile de Houx in the Meuse river, taken from amidst the ruins of the Chateau de Poilvache.

And finally a pic of the Chateau de Crupet, or rather its donjon surrounded by a moat/pool. Crupet is a lovely, tiny village more or less right between Dinant and Namur.

The photos don't do justice to the day, but may give you an idea of the landscape in much of Belgium's southeast.

MC DONALDS SINT-PIETERS-LEEUW (BELGIUM) CELEBRATES RAMADAN.

This is how it goes, millimeter after millimeter, inch after inch, month after month, year after year...

 photo stpietersleeuw_mcdonalds_zps6c9d3916.jpg

... and one day you find yourself living in an islamic country.

At a time when never before the complete and untter inability of islamic societies to offer their subjects a safe haven, where their rights are respected and where they can live an prosper peacefully, has been so abundantly clear, the staff of the Mc Donalds in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw (about fifteen kloms southwest of Brussels) has decided, in their gullible and willfully chosen ignorance, to celebrate ramadan.

Well then, Mc Donalds Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, NEVER AGAIN will I set foot in your establishment. It's not only because I loathe your groveling in the dirt before your future overlords, but also because I care about animals. To Outlaw Mike, halal is HARAM. Vegetarianism's not for me, mind you. But animals shouldn't suffer when slaughtered. The sheer, mindless bestiality with which muslims treat them is therefore utterly repulsive, and indicative of what they are capable of when in conflict with other human beings.

How weird that in our schools the same ones who lecture our children about the virtues of vegetarianism are also the same ones who will usher them to multiculti meetings where they can taste halal stuff. I kid you not, I got photos of that. Subject for another post though.
