The implication here is that Barack Obama sought to use the FBI, or at least resources and personnel of it, to damage a political opponent. Which is strange, because I always thought that the FBI was for fighting crime. But I guess I am naive.

Manchester Art Gallery, in northern England, took down "Hylas and the Nymphs" by John William Waterhouse last week, partly in light of the cultural #MeToo movement, which aims to highlight the mistreatment of women.

In a blog post about the removal, the gallery said: "We have left a temporary space in Gallery 10 in place of 'Hylas and the Nymphs' by JW Waterhouse to prompt conversation about how we display and interpret artworks in Manchester’s public collection."

The oil painting, completed in 1896, shows the mythological figure of Hylas, one of the Argonauts who joined Jason on a quest to retrieve a magical golden fleece.

At one point in the voyage, Hylas strayed from the group and met a group of nymphs, magical woman-like creatures with a reputation for being beautiful, naked, and treacherous. He was abducted and never seen again, the moment depicted in the painting."

According to The Guardian, gallery curator Clare Gannaway said the Time's Up and #MeToo cultural movements "fed into the decision" to take the picture down.

The report suggested that the painting could be put back later, depending on the public response.

The AfD politician said these attacks were clearly not isolated cases. She added: “Every single case is one too many” to loud applause from the audience.

Christoph Berndt from the Zukunft Heimat alliance called in his speech on the mayor of Cottbus, Holger Kelch, to set up an account for the 16-year-old German, who was injured on January 17, to pay for any necessary cosmetic surgical treatments. For this purpose, donations were also collected during the demonstration. In addition, Berndt said, a contact group for those victims of violence by refugees has to be set up.

Refugees are not an enrichment, but a threat speakers said. They accused politicians of abandoning their people...."

Next week, on Sunday 28 January, Finland has presidential elections. Laura Huhtasaari is a candidate for the Finns (formerly the True Finns) party:





To be sure, it's as good as certain that the incumbent president, Sauli Niinisto, an former candidate for the Conservative party who now runs as an independent, will be elected for a second six-year term. No, sorry, make that a 100 per cent certain. He's been a fairly good steward of the Finnish economy plus, has normalized relations with his mighty neighbor. In the case of the Finns it's quite understandable that cocky behaviour in foreign policy is an unaffordable luxury.

But what is important is that the Finns keep building up the pressure on him to resist the multiculti nonsense and the Diktats from the EU, of which Finland has been a member since 1995. It is important - for the no. 2 candidate in the polls, with 14 per cent, is actually the candidate of the Green Party, Pekka Haavisto. Having studied social 'studies' at the University of Helsinki (without completing the degree), not having served in the Finnish Army but having opted for non-military service instead, being openly gay (in a registered partnership with an Ecuadorian), and all sold on multiculti phantasmagorias despite the many problems caused by new Finns from (mainly) Somalia, Haavisto is the perfect watermelon candidate.

There's more significance here than meets the eye. I... dare hope, and even posit, that Mr Peterson's performance here is more than one lucky shot for the Right in the culture wars. Peterson, who in 2013 began recording his lectures and uploading them to his YouTube channel (which by now has over 600,000 subscribers), is part of a growing number of prominent personalities on the Right who seem to be grasping what benefits the new digital communication avenues can bring them.

On this here humble blog, I have stated several times that our real enemy is not 'islam'. I even borrowed a couple of times a line from Oliver Stoned, a soundbite he used in his 86 flick Platoon: "The enemy is in us". And it is, though not in the context of that movie, but in our daily lives, in our interactions at school, university, the workplace, the cinemas, the family even. The enemy is in us to an extent that the Left has convinced far too many of us that we should hate ourselves for what we are and have done.

If we had not allowed a gazillion of leftist/greenish dogmas and phantasmagorias to poison the minds of generations, the West would not find itself in such a dire predicament as it is today.

I've been mulling it over. The emergence of a leader like President Trump and the appearance of a personality like Peterson are not coincidences... but maybe, possibly, signs that a great turnover in the Right's fortunes is just over the horizon.

Oh yes, I would counsel against too much optimism.

And yet I'm reminded of that famous WSC quote, pronounced after the Battle of El Alamein.

LOWER SAXONY, GERMANY: ONE IN THREE MUSLIM STUDENTS WILLING TO FIGHT AND DIE FOR ISLAM.

"A survey of schools in the German region of Lower Saxony has shown that close to 10 per cent of Muslim students have direct sympathies for radical Islamic groups like Islamic State and some even support acts of terrorism.

One in three of the Muslim students who responded to the survey said that they would be willing to fight and die for Islam.

Twenty-seven per cent said they agreed with the statement: “The Islamic laws of Sharia, according to which, for example, adultery or homosexuality are severely punished, are much better than the German laws,” Die Welt reports.

Eight per cent said they agreed with the creation of an Islamic empire or caliphate in the Middle East through the use of force. A further 3.8 per cent said they agreed that sometimes it was justified for Muslims to engage in acts of terrorism to further their goals.

A fifth of the Muslim students agreed that Muslims are oppressed all over the world and they have to defend themselves by force, and 18.6 per cent said that it was the duty of Muslims to spread Islam and “fight unbelievers”.

The results come from a study conducted in 2015 that had previously not been made public. Criminologist Christian Pfeiffer made the data public as part of his own study into the cause of immigrant crime. The authors of the original study point out that only 280 Muslim students answered the survey but added that the results were noteworthy."

I checked out this Christian Pfeiffer and he seems to be a man with considerable stature in his line of, ahem, work. He was a Professor of Criminology at the Justice faculty of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität in Hanover. He's also a former Director of the Kriminologischen Forschungsinstituts Niedersachsen (KFN). And, from 2000 to 2003, Justice Minister in Lower Saxony.

BAF F-16 DETACHMENT BACK FROM JORDAN.

On DEC 26, 2017, the BAF F-16 detachment took off from their base in Jordan for the last time and flew back to Belgium, a trip which took 6 hours and during which they were refuelled by an Armée de l'Air tanker. During one and a half year, from July 1, 2016 to December 26, 2017, the jets (during the first year 6, from July 2017 4), logged 6,108 flying hours. Like in the previous deployments, the BAF air strikes accounted for 5 per cent of the coalition total. More info here. As before, the Dutch Air Force will now take over.





Before long, another detachment of 4 planes which operated from Amari AFB, Estonia since September 4, will also return home. They had been posted there in the framework of NATO's Enhanced Air Policing Mission. This deployment was the seventh.





The two simultaneous missions, although still very modest, leave open the question of what the Belgian military would be capable of if only it did not have to operate on less than a shoestring budget. There is indeed no department that has had to cut its budget for so long and so profoundly like defense.

As for the venerable F16's successor, another one of the candidates for replacement, Boeing with its F/A-18 Super Hornet, pulled out of the bidding process in April of 2017 already. The Saab Gripen is also out of the question since it cannot be equipped with nuclear weapons. The French government just recently probably overplayed its hand in promising Belgium 20 billion EUR in economic compensations if the BAF would decide for the Dassault Rafale. So basically there are only two serious contenders left: the Eurofighter Typhoon and the Lockheed Martin F-35A. The latter would be the most logical choice since it is truly a 5th generation aircraft, now outgrowing its development difficulties fast, but more importantly, the Dutch already use it (as do the Norwegians) and if the anti-ISIS operations over Syria and Iraq, and before that, the missions in Afghanistan, have shown anything, it's that by using the same aircraft the air forces of the Low Countries can and will develop even more synergies. A final decision is expected in the course of this year. It's about time.

"A man armed with a machete assaulted an elderly volunteer worker at a homeless shelter in Shelburne, Vt., Friday morning, according to local police.

32-year-old Abukar Ibrahim attacked a 73-year-old Meals on Wheels volunteer while she was delivering food to Harbor Place, which provides temporary emergency housing to those in need. While in the office, the female victim reportedly saw Ibrahim vandalizing her car. When she confronted him and tried to intervene, the man became violent, assaulting her with a machete, according to police.

The woman was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center with multiple injuries, including a “significant leg wound.” She received treatment and was later released.

In the wake of the attack, Ibrahim, who police identified as the assailant, barricaded himself in a room for two and a half hours. He supposedly taunted police officers from inside the room before deciding to come out and surrender. The attacker was sent to the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility on charges of attempted murder."

The three biggest cities in Sweden – Stockholm, Goteborg and Malmo – have seen several violent gang-related incidents in the past few years.
