SATURDAY NIGHT ARAM KHACHATURIAN, MAURICE-ALEXIS JARRE.

First the Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia by Aram Khachaturian.

It is true that the Soviet composer of Armenian descent Khachaturian wrote a number of pieces which found their way to popular culture. This theme e.g. was used for the hugely popular seventies BBC series The Onedin Line. Still, it is fair to say Khachaturian forms together with Shostakovich and Prokofiev the Triumvirate of Soviet Composers.

Lara's Theme by Maurice-Alexis Jarre.

From the movie Doctor Zhivago of course. And yes, the composer of electronic music Jean-Michel Jarre is his son, in case you wondered. The very first music cassette I bought was from him: Oxygene.

Nite.
