The Singing Butler by
Jack Vettriano, OBE. Born as Jack Hoggan in 1951 in Fife, Scotland, in a poor working class family, and setting his first steps in the labor market as an apprentice mining engineer, nothing seemed to indicate he'd become a hugely productive star artist whose works breathe a Hopperesque quality. This work, the most well known of them all, is from 1992. In that same year, it was rejected by the Royal Academy summer exhibition. On 21 April 2004, its original canvas was sold at auction for £744,500.
I don't care how many times it's been recycled or how many cheap reproductions have been made.
I don't care he's being regarded somehow as a cheap erotica painter.
It's
ART, period.
MFBB.
